The neighbor of flint hall

                                           The neighbor of flint hall
--- First official “meeting” with Day Hall
After talked about the four seasons of Flint hall, I am now going to talk about things happened in Day hall. As a person who really does not like to go out, especially to an unfamiliar place, I have never visited Day hall even though it just less than 500 meters away from my dorm. But, the outside looking and the surrounding forests and plants are familiar to me because the view outside my window is Day hall and those “decorations”.
As usual, I took out my phone and gave quick shots of Day hall and the forests. I rarely took pictures of Day hall, so today is the first time. But I witnessed the forests from green to yellow and now white, and to be honest, the forests become more attractive when covered by snows. The snow is purely white, which resembles an amazing silver coat put on the forests. Right next to the forests is an avenue and a parking lot, my friends and I always practice skateboard there. In addition, the shape of Day hall is really interesting, and it looks like a toy plane. As demonstrated in the photo below, the two sides of the building resemble the wings of the airplane and the other large section resembles the head of the toy plane. At some degree, Day hall looks much cuter than Flint hall.

To be memorized, today is the first day I got into the building and stood at the lounge of Day hall. Everything around me looks so strange and unfamiliar to me, and even my ID card cannot let me in. Fortunately, a student lives in Day hall opened the door for me, so I just followed his steps to the lounge. The lounge looks smaller than Flint hall, tables and sofas are put much closer, and there are billiards tables and foosball tables for students to relax and entertainment. In addition, it was my first time to go to the Day hall, so I felt nervous and I was afraid of being asked by the faculty or students at the front desk, but fortunately, there were no people sitting at the front desk, and students in Day hall walked so fast, and I guess that their classes are about to start. Then I stood in the lounge and just looked at how students ran to the classes, and I saw one of my friends who live in Day, we greeted each other and she briefly introduced the first floor of Day hall to me. Thanks to her introduction, I have a basic knowledge for Day hall, and I just walked around and look around the first floor because I felt curious about this familiar yet strange building.

Actually, I have a lot of friends live in Day hall, and they told me a lot of interesting things happened to them in Day hall. One of my friends who come from Japan told me the first impression that she has about the Day hall at the international orientation, “when I first arrived there, and I took a lot of packages and cases to there, I felt extremely exhausted, and I saw my dorm, I felt desperate because we do not have independent toilets!!” she said these words angrily but a few days later, I asked her the impression about Day hall since she lived there. She smiled and said “I feel better right now, I have accustomed the life here, I love people here and they are nice to me. As long as you enjoy life and try to find the beauty in life, you will feel happy and satisfied.” That’s right, I agree with her and I do think that people should have eyes to explore beauty in life.
Surprisingly, there are a lot of parties in Day hall lounge than in Flint hall, and the parties that they held were various themed such as yoga practices, meditation, food cultures, and Mix it up for international students. So almost two to three days within a week, students from different residential halls will gather at the lounge of day hall to do exercises, communicate different cultures and customs, or do yoga, meditation together. Overall, the lounge is a place for students to make friends and communicate with like-minded people, and I think this is one point that Day hall really attract me.
Now the winter comes to Syracuse, and the leaves of those trees planted around Day halls fell, which makes Day hall look much lonelier. In addition, the precipitation of snowfall is large in Syracuse, and the sky looks grey, which can also contribute to the lonely image of Day hall. The following two photos make a big comparison on the color of Day hall. In the summer or spring, the walls are red and bright, but in the winter, the white snow may undermine the red and make the wall brown. Furthermore, on the way to visit Day hall today, I felt free and easy. I slowed my steps and tried to enjoy the weather. I love the grey sky the most and I love how the winter wind blows my face which made my nose and cheeks red. My friend once made fun of me, she said, “Yvonnex, you look like a clown because of your red nose! And you do not need to buy cosmetics because the nippy wind can help you put on makeup.”

Although I don’t have too many experiences of living in Day hall, and I may have only limited stories that my friends who live in day hall shared with me, I appreciate designers of the building and I look forward to taking more pictures of those forests and Day hall. I will explore more angles to take pictures which can make Day hall look more grand and appealing. At last, I just want to accentuate that I am glad to visit another residential hall on campus and I will remember how I feel when I stood in a familiar yet strange building.
